Hardwood vs. Tile: Choosing the Right Dreame Settings for SA Floors
South African architectural design is famous for beautiful, diverse flooring. Walk into a modern home in Sandton, a coastal property in Umhlanga, or a heritage house in Constantia, and you will likely find a striking combination of textures under one roof. We love combining high-shine porcelain tiles in the kitchen, porous natural slate or screed around the braai patio, and luxurious, warm engineered hardwood in the bedrooms.
While this looks spectacular, maintaining it can be a logistical headache. Traditional cleaning methods often fail here—mopping hardwood with too much water can cause expensive wood warping, while using too little water on textured tiles leaves stubborn dirt trapped in the grout lines.
Fortunately, you don’t need different cleaning appliances for different rooms. The Dreamehome App gives you absolute, localized control over how your smart vacuum handles individual floor types. Here is how to configure your Dreame Robot or Wet & Dry Vacuum to protect your floors and get a perfect clean across every surface.
1. The Hardwood Protocol: Zero Damage, Maximum Protection
Whether you have solid oak or contemporary engineered hardwood, moisture is your floor’s primary enemy. Standard robotic mops often lay down a continuous, heavy trail of water that can seep into the joins between floorboards, leading to swelling, buckling, or finish degradation.
The App Configuration: Open your Dreamehome App, select your bedroom or lounge zone, and switch the parameters to Customized Cleaning.
- Mop Wetness Level: Lower the humidity output to Slightly Damp (Level 12 or below). This ensures the microfibers dissolve dust without leaving standing water behind.
- Clean Along the Floor Grain: In the advanced map-editing menu, mark the area explicitly as Hardwood and enable the Clean Along the Floor feature. Your Dreame robot will automatically align its navigation path to follow the natural direction of the wood grain. This reduces horizontal scraping, lowers mechanical friction, and protects the delicate protective sealant.
2. The Tile Strategy: High Moisture and Grout Extraction
Porcelain, ceramic, and natural travertine tiles are incredibly resilient, but they present a completely different challenge: texture and deep grout joints. Fine dust and sticky kitchen residues slide right off hard tile faces and settle into the lower grout channels, escaping standard vacuum sweeps.
The Tile Deep-Clean Specification
Tiles require structural pressure and fluid volume to flush out hidden dirt. Flagship models like the Dreame L10s Ultra Gen 2 utilize the DuoScrub™ Mopping System, combining high-speed rotary scrubbers with up to 10,000 Pa of suction power.
To maximize this setup on your kitchen or entryway map, raise the app's Mop Wetness level to High (Level 22 or above). This releases enough moisture to saturate and lift sticky residues from textured tiles, while the dual-spinning pads press firmly into the grout recesses to lift the dirt.
3. Managing the Cross-Surface Transition Automatically
What happens if your robot has to cross from your tiled dining room over a section of carpet to reach the hardwood hallway? In the past, you had to manually attach and detach mop pads.
Dreame’s intelligent Carpet Detection Sensors eliminate this physical friction entirely:
The robot deep-cleans your kitchen tiles at high wetness, utilizing its bionic MopExtend™ arm to scrub flush against the skirting boards and appliances.
The moment the sensors detect a carpet or rug boundary, the robot instantly stops the water flow and executes an Auto-Mop Lift (up to 10.5mm). The damp pads are raised completely off the floor into the chassis cavity, keeping your carpets bone-dry.
While crossing the rug, the machine automatically activates Carpet Boost mode, ramping up its digital motor to its maximum power capacity to extract deep-seated sand and pet fur from the backing fibers.
